Mari is a South Korean who was born in Orange County, Los Angeles. She has a diverse background that has allowed her to find pride in her roots and her humble beginnings. After moving from Orange County to Alabama, Mari and her family opened her several convenience stores in underprivileged areas within the state. While working with her family in these stores, Mari vividly remembered the racism many of the customers were victims of. However, racism was not something foreign to Mari; growing up in a series private Christian schools brought challenges of racism and an identity crisis that became integral parts of her life. For that reason, she vowed to combat these issues; as a Stylist, she found her way of doing exactly that.
As a devoted Christian, her motto is Mark 12:31, The second is this: love thy neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these. One of the most important things that she learned in life is to treat every client with respect and kindness, regardless of social class, race, religion, etc. She credits her mother for teaching her everything about love and kindness towards all human beings.
Her journey with hair started in junior high school, where Mari's friends would ask her for help with their makeup and hair. She knew then that she had a passion for helping people look and feel good about themselves. This passion was fostered at Paul Mitchell The School in Birmingham, AL. Upon graduation, she worked for several salons but was not satisfied working for those who focus more on sales and numbers rather the love for making people look good and feel special. However the minute you step into Mariboo Salon you feel at home and welcomed. She creates amazing hair with an edgy and modern flare, more importantly, she emphasizes kindness, passion, and love. Now that she has her passion back, she can live her life staying humble and hustling hard.
